THE PICKERING FAMILY

Stacey is a seventh-generation Mississippian. He was raised on the family dairy farm in the Hebron community of Jones County, where he worked alongside his father and grandfather. His parents, Gene and Karon Pickering, a public school teacher, instilled in him the values that guide him today: hard work, the importance of faith and family, and integrity.

A National 4-H Scholarship Winner, Stacey graduated from West Jones High School and went on to Jones County Junior College. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., and a Master’s Degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Stacey was elected to the Mississippi State Senate in 2003 to represent District 42 in Jones County. As Senator, Stacey serves as Chairman of the Local and Private committee and Chairman of Enrolled Bills. He also serves on the Constitution; Finance; Forestry; Highways & Transportation; Judiciary-Division B; Oil, Gas & Other Minerals; and Universities & Colleges committees.

In 2004, Stacey Pickering was named Legislator of the Year by the Mississippi Association of Realtors. The American Legislative Exchange Council named Stacey to the national policy task forces on Transportation and Homeland Security. And last year, Stacey helped organize the Mississippi Legislative Sportsman’s Caucus, serving as founding Co-Chairman of this group that in its first year passed more pro-hunting legislation than any other caucus in the nation.

Stacey and his wife, Whitney, live in Laurel, Miss., with their four children. They are active members of First Baptist Church, Laurel, and at their children’s school, serving as past Presidents of the school PTO. Stacey is active in various community and civic organizations. He is a Mason, volunteer firefighter, a member of the National Rifle Association and Sigma Nu Fraternity.
